THE Mayor of West Yorkshire has promised to work with the new Labour Government to "boost growth and deliver" for the area.

Tracy Brabin spoke after Labour's landslide win in the General Election.

She said: "I look forward to working with this new Government to boost growth and deliver for West Yorkshire.

"Working closely with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and his Cabinet, we will deliver a brighter region that works for all, prioritising the things that really matter to people.

"A growing economy with strong businesses and well paid jobs.

"A better-connected region with local control of buses and a new tram system.

"A greener, more secure region with warm and affordable homes for all.

"A safer, fairer region with less violence and improved safety for women and girls.

"A region of learning, with skills training for adults and more books and sports for children."

At a victory rally in London, Sir Keir said the country can now "get its future back" after 14 years of Tory rule.

He told jubilant activists "we did it", adding: "Change begins now."

It marks a spectacular turnaround since 2019, when Boris Johnson won an 80-seat Conservative majority and Labour suffered its worst result since 1935.
