Votes in the London mayoral elections 2024 are being counted as Londoners wait to see whether it will be the fall of Sadiq Khan or if Susan Hall can buck the Tory trend. The race is said to be 'very close' as this year's turnout has been revealed to be lower than in 2021. Votes will be counted and results declared later on today (May 4).

Londoners voted for their mayor and London Assembly Members on Thursday, May 2. But London Elects has this afternoon released the turnout figure after verification of the number of ballot papers was carried out today. And in the past 24 hours the Tories have been crushed by 'the worst election results in years' as the UK has also seen a rise in the number of Women's Equality Party winners.

With the election results expected within hours, and a potential change of London mayor unless Sadiq Khan is voted in for another term, MyLondon has compiled a list of what Londoners are saying this morning on the 'two horse race' and whether Count Binface could stand a chance.

Starting off with a pretty bleak analysis of the vote of London mayor, one person wrote: "Is it just me or having to choose between Susan Hall and Sadiq Khan feels like having to decide who is the least worse candidate to win a...!!!! #LondonMayorElections in 2024?"

Another added: "Seems to be a race to lose by who is hated most. Khan's ULEZ etc or the Tories. A difficult one to predict."

A third Londoner chimed in with: "You know it's desperate when the Conservative party are pinning all their hopes on Susan Hall. In fact if Susan Hall is the answer, what's the bloody question?"

A supposed Count Binface voter added: "If Count Binface doesn't win, I'm going to be f******* fuming. I'm really looking forward to £1.10 croissants and the return of Trocadero! #LondonMayorElections."

"I think #SadiqKhan will get back in as mayor #LondonMayorElections", said another Londoner waiting on the results to be announced.

Another Londoner pondered: "If Susan Hall beats Sadiq in the London Mayoral race, will the Conservatives go around saying this proves the majority of British voters support them? #LondonMayorElections"

"Not sure if I'm buying the Sadiq Khan loses London story. Sounds like some naughty Tories trying to make mischief. Heaven forbid Susan Hall does win. She makes Liz Truss look like Jacinda Ardern and she'd create a whole new definition of chaos", said another.

The Greater London Returning Officer (GLRO) will announce the result of the mayoral election at City Hall today (Saturday, May 4) once all votes have been counted at the 14 constituencies.

Later, the GLRO will announce the allocation of the 11 London-wide Assembly Member seats.

Once the Constituency results have been announced at each venue, the London-wide ballot papers counted, and the calculation made to allocate the 11 seats proportionally to parties or candidates.
