A new McDonald's location is expected to open in Newark on Trent, which would be the brand's second site in the town. Currently there is a McDonalds in Newark off Lincoln Road close to the Brownhills Roundabout for the A1 and A46, but a recent planning application to Newark and Sherwood District Council suggests a second location could be opening soon.

Submitted by McDonald’s Restaurants Ltd on April 23, 2024, the application is requesting permission to install two new fascia signs at unit one off the London Road Car Park, close to the Odeon cinema. The new signs would be the signature golden arch and McDonald's lettering.

The application also states a advertisement period for the signs, which is April 23, 2024 until April 23, 2029. This suggests the new store could be a long-term option for the town, but it is not clear if this will change anything from the current location.

Due to the only McDonald's in the town being located on the outskirts rather than the town centre, it is suspected that this new town centre location will be busy as it is a location more people can walk to and is more central to other attractions in the town.

The retail unit near the cinema has been empty for some time, and has previously been a European supermarket and off-licence. Aside from the McDonald's near the A1, the other closest locations for the chain include Hykeham, Mansfield, Markham Moor and West Bridgford.
