It’s been a frustrating nine years for McFly fans, with the foursome constantly promising new music is coming soon but none materialising.

Singer Tom Fletcher revealed back in 2016 that the band have previously scrapped two albums after not being 100% behind the material.

But things took a positive turn when bassist Dougie Poynter recently said they were heading to the studio very soon.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy at the Cirque Du Soleil Totem launch, Danny Jones said: “It's always going to be there because we never split up but this come back thing or reunion, we've always done things for the long run.

“It's just part of the role to take that year out and when we did it turned in to two years and then it was three years and we all became successful in our own thing. We all absolutely love the band and we will all be doing it at some point in the future.

"We've always written classic songs and stuff that really sounds good in acoustic before we put all the production on. We have to be true to ourselves but then we have to fit in to where the industry has gone."

Dougie added: “It’s always going to have guitars isn't it? Guitars and hopefully, just good."

The duo also denied any rumours the reason the band had taken so long out was due to a feud between the members.

“Not at all,” Danny said. “When McBusted finished we thought 'oh that was so amazing, we need to, after 15 years, to chill'. I had time to go away and chill and have my little boy and so my solo career. I think it's healthy to do it and it's made our relationship stronger for it.

“We’re 100% all still friends, I go to the gym every day with Dougie, not every day. We go to the gym, Harry [Judd] goes to the gym.

“But it's a problem, we're terrible at communicating. We're like 'let's do the band' and then a year later we go 'we should do the band then.' A year later 'when are we going to write' but our management is getting us in to gear now and is on top of it all and come up with a plan. It's good that people want it.”

Cirque Du Soleil Totem is at the Royal Albert Hall until February 26. Tickets are available here.
