Mean Girls removes "fire crotch" joke that offended Lindsay Lohan

Mean Girls spoilers follow.

The new Mean Girls movie has removed the joke that "disappointed" Lindsay Lohan from its digital release.

The film, which is a musical adaptation of the original 2004 movie, featured a brief cameo from rapper Megan Thee Stallion, who said "Y2K fire crotch is back" in response to the outfit worn by Cady Heron (Angourie Rice) during the Christmas talent show.

The phrase refers to a 2006 paparazzi video in which Brandon Davis called Lohan - who played Cady in the original film - a "fire crotch".

"Lindsay was very hurt and disappointed by the reference in the film," a representative for the actress told People following the film's release in January.

E! News has now confirmed that the joke has been removed from the film's digital version, which was released in the US on February 20.

Lohan herself makes a surprise cameo towards the end of the movie, appearing as host of the Mathletes State Championship finals.

"I felt like if I could only get one person as a surprise, the original movie is really Lindsay's movie. As great as they all are, she's the heart of that movie," Tina Fey, who wrote, produced and starred in both films, told Entertainment Weekly.

In other news, Lohan will reunite with her Mean Girls co-star Tim Meadows - who plays Principial Duvall in both the original film and the new one - in Netflix's upcoming romcom Our Little Secret.

Our Little Secret will see the actress and Ian Harding play two resentful exes who are forced to spend Christmas together, while Meadows' role is yet to be disclosed.

First, though, fans will be able to see Lohan in another Netflix rom-com titled Irish Wish, which arrives on the platform on March 15.

Mean Girls is still out in cinemas and is also available to buy or rent in the US from Prime Video, iTunes, Vudu and more.
