Road signs designed by two pupils from a school in North Lanarkshire have been recreated as real signs by a homebuilder.

Hannah Summers, 11, and Flynn Thomson, 10, from Holytown Primary School, created the winning designs aimed at encouraging drivers to drive safely through Taylor Wimpey West Scotland's development in Holytown.

The entries by Hannah and Flynn have been turned into real road signs posted near the entrance of the Torrance Place development.

Both pupils also won a £50 book token for their contributions.

Audrey Ross, sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey West Scotland, said: “We recognise the importance of making sure that we support the communities in which we build our new homes.

“It has been great fun to work with Holytown Primary on this project and to see just how well the children responded to our brief to them.

“Projects like this allow us to strengthen and extend our links again with this new and growing community in North Lanarkshire.

“We hope the children’s signs will remind drivers to drive safely around the development.”

The overall standard of designs was so high that five more were picked to create a banner in Taylor Wimpey’s show area car park.

These contributors also received a £15 book token each.

Laura Alcorn, headteacher at Holytown Primary, said: “Having the opportunity to work with Taylor Wimpey to create road signs has been an unusual challenge but a great way to deliver a very important message.

“This is a lovely connection between our school and the local Taylor Wimpey development in Holytown.

“The children all really enjoyed tackling their brief to create a bold and colourful design and we are very proud of their efforts.”
