Meet The Newly Discovered Bioflurescent Sea Turtle...It’s Neon Baby

Turtles are cool animals - you only have to watch Finding Nemo and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to know that.

It seems their dude factor has risen with the help of a new discovery just off the Solomon Islands which are east of Papua New Guinea.

Scientists from City University of New York were able to capture footage of the hawksbill sea turtle emit neon green and red light.

Dr David Gruber and his team described seeing the turtle for the first time as akin to watching an alien space ship.

They were studying biofluorescence in coral when they mad their astonishing discovery.

Hawksbill turtles are listed as a critically endangered species due to climate change with only a several thousand breeding females left in some areas.

Dr Gruber told CNN: ‘Their numbers have really dwindled, and yet we still don’t understand them.

‘For me, there’s a sense of urgency to protect and understand these species while they are still here.’
