Megxit: How newspapers reacted to Harry and Meghan ‘stepping back’ from Royal Family

The decision by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to quit life as senior royals surprised the world on Wednesday night.

It is understood the royal couple had just begun talks with the Queen and Charles about their future roles when they made their decision to go public.

The mood at Buckingham Palace is understood to be one of disappointment while the BBC has reported that senior royals have been "hurt" by the announcement.

Britain’s newspapers had their say on ‘Megxit’ this morning - and several front pages feature blistering attacks on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Not a single paper was sympathetic to Harry and Meghan, although some were more reserved in their views, arguing the desire for less scrutiny by splitting their time on both sides of the Atlantic is understandable, especially since the birth of son Archie.

Others are more scathing.
