Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Skip the 2024 Met Gala

Over the years, a few members of the British royal family have attended the Met Gala. Most famously, Princess Diana wore a navy Versasce gown (and stunning pearl and sapphire choker) back in 1995, and more recently, Princess Beatrice arrived at the event in 2018 in a flowing purple gown. However, America's resident royal couple, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, have yet to make an appearance in New York City on the first Monday in May. That isn't changing this year. Town & Country can confirm that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will not be in attendance at the Met Gala this evening.

It's been a busy spring so far for Harry and Meghan. The Duchess of Sussex is gearing up for the launch of her new venture, American Riviera Orchard, and she revealed the brand's first product—strawberry jam—by mailing gift baskets to close friends. In addition, the couple confirmed they have two new Netflix projects in the works: a cooking and entertaining show hosted by Meghan, and a docuseries about the world of professional polo. Plus, a few weeks ago, they were in Florida for a charity polo match in support of Harry's Sentebale nonprofit.

Prince Harry is scheduled to attend an event in London this week celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games. Earlier this year, he and Meghan traveled to Canada to mark one year to go until the 2025 edition of the Games. During his remarks on the last day of the trip, he said, "We're celebrating our 10th anniversary, our 10th birthday this year, and the journey that we have all been on with Invictus, especially with competitors and their families, it continues, it always continues. But every single one of you inspire me and you inspire us every single day." This month, too, Harry and Meghan will travel to Nigeria to undertake engagements related to the Invictus Games.
