Spice Girls star Melanie Brown is reportedly engaged to hairdresser boyfriend Rory McPhee after three years of dating.

The 47-year-old singer and TV personality, best known as Mel B, is believed to have been surprised earlier this week during a romantic getaway in Berkshire.

According to reports by The Sun, Brown tearfully accepted the proposal at the fancy Cliveden House after being presented with a pear-shaped diamond ring.

The source said: "Mel is so happy and this is such a big deal for her because she has been though such a lot.

"It has taken a huge amount for a man to get her to trust him and to believe in love again.

"Rory is from her home town Leeds, he’s known her for years. He’s the absolute opposite of so many of the guys she had relationships with."

The insider added McPhee was a "normal down-to-earth guy with good morals" who has given Brown the opportunity to trust again after years of abuse.

The pair initially met through friends in Los Angeles in 2018, before becoming more serious a year later when Brown returned to the UK for the Spice Girl's 'Spice World' reunion tour.

However, they have opted to keep their relationship out of the limelight.

This will be the 'Wannabe' singer's third marriage, following a two-year marriage to Jimmy Gulzar from 1998 to 2000, and a ten-year, tumultuous marriage to Stephen Belafonte from 2007 and 2017.

Belafonte and Brown married just six weeks into their relationship, with Belafonte wanting a Vegas wedding and Brown buying both wedding bands.

She has since publicly accused him of physical and mental abuse during their relationship, which she says caused her to turn to drugs and alcohol to self-medicate. She has also spoken out about suffering PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) as a result of the decade-long relationship.

Following her split from Belafonte, Brown has become a patron of domestic violence charity Women's Aid, and earlier this year was awarded an MBE for her services to the organisation.

Speaking after collecting her award, she said the ceremony was "absolutely lovely" and was honoured to be representing other survivors.

“I never thought I would be here getting this MBE for the work I’ve been doing," she told the PA news agency. “It’s amazing to have but it’s not just for me – it’s for all those other women."

The publicly messy split from Belafonte meant she struggled to trust again, according to pals, but Leeds-native McPhee has "helped her believe in love again".
