An incredible series of paintings of the Humberston Fitties is set to go on display at Cleethorpes Library after the artist who painted them was tragically killed in a car accident last year.

Judith Tucker, 63, sadly died on November 13, not long after creating a stunning series of paintings of chalets on the Humberston Fitties at night. Her final series, 'Dark Marsh', captured close-ups of the marshland around the Fitties.

In 2013, local artist Linda Ingham invited Judith to Cleethorpes, where she developed a love of painting the beaches, marshes and chalets here, staying regularly on the Humberston Fitties ever since. In 2016, alongside her partner and poet Harriet Tarlo, Judith launched 'Project Fitties'.

Over the years, they worked with the community and other collaborators including photographer and artist, Annabel McCourt, and bird ecologist, Nicola Hemmings, to create exhibitions and bring workshops and drop-ins on the heritage, bird life and plant life of the unique seaside location to the Fitties.

The memorial exhibition, which will be shown at Cleethorpes Library from late May, will showcase a unique selection of Judith's work, from her earliest paintings of the site to the more recent Night Fitties series.

Linda Ingham said: “Judith Tucker’s work based in North East Lincolnshire has been exhibited, admired, and studied internationally. She made a second home with her partner and poet, Harriet Tarlo here, and this show demonstrates her love of the Fitties.”

The exhibition will open on Wednesday, May 1. The library is open on Saturdays from 9am to 1pm and Mondays to Thursdays from 8.30am to 5.30pm.
