Memorial for fallen veterans rebuilt in Henry County
HENRY COUNTY, Ala (WDHN) — Henry County citizens can once again pay respects to fallen war veterans.
Abbeville unveiled its brand new War Dead monuments at Veterans Memorial Park after a tornado swept through the area last year, destroying the five existing monuments.
Since the tornado, Henry County has raised over $17,000, and the monuments have been replaced.
The War Dead monuments highlight Henry County residents who died while serving in different wars. Henry County Commission chairman David Money says that this would not have been possible without the parties involved.
“We’ve had people call from several states away. Some days I open the mail, and there’s a check. We have kept records of those that made donations, and I’ve personally written thank-you notes to all those people,” said Chairman Money. “So it really wasn’t just a henry county effort. It was a wiregrass, and actually to some degree, a national effort.”
