Meows alerts passerby to cat dumped in bag and left to die on rubbish heap
A cat was rescued after being found dumped on the pile of rubbish in a zipped-up bag. A passerby was alerted after he heard 'meows' coming from the mound of waste.
On further investigation, a 'very stinky' little kitten - now named Popcorn - was discovered after being left for dead. Popcorn was then taken to Lime Trees Veterinary Hospital in Meir Park after being found.
A check by a vet revealed Popcorn - believed to be four to five months old - had a head injury and was struggling to walk. Now the cat is being looked after by Cheadle Animal Welfare Society as he continues his recovery.

Margaret Russell, from the charity, said: "A man was visiting his friend on Nantwich Road in Crewe and heard a cat meowing. He took no notice. He went into his friend's and when he came out, he once again heard the cat so he looked around and saw a black zipped up food bag on a pile of rubbish hidden away.
"It was 21.30pm on Tuesday night. He tentatively opened the bag a little and saw a cat inside who was 'very stinky'. The cat was so weak it couldn't run away in fact it had difficulty in walking. It staggered out of the bag, was soaked in urine and very cold. The man then took the cat to his home, bathed and dried it and then contacted the emergency vet.
"He was in shock and very cold. He was found to have a head trauma resulting in his head being swollen and they were worried about his eye sight. He was unable to walk properly. X-rays were done, but thankfully no injuries were found. He was then put on a drip and given strong pain relief. This little cat was so pleased to have someone caring for him."
Margaret said she had been disgusted by the way Popcorn had been left to die. She added: "The way in which this cat was so cruelly dumped is appalling. He was zipped into a small bag so there was no chance of escape and placed in an area where there would be little chance of him being found. It was a very cold day and night and he must have been in the bag for several hours as he was in such a state.
"This cruelty needs to be brought to the attention of the public. No animal should ever have to suffer like this. If Popcorn had not been found when he was then he would have had no chance of survival."
