An email was sent to runners across Merseyside ahead of a popular race event in the city. Liverpool’s half marathon returns once again this year, with runners gearing up in the hopes of logging a personal best time.

The event is incredibly popular with runners, and with its timing before the London and Manchester marathons, many are able to use it as a chance to test their progress. Other athletes use the race as a personal challenge to test themselves over a longer distance, and some participate to raise funds for charities.

The event will take over the city on Sunday, March 23, and, as usual, it will start at 9am. However, prospective runners have been warned that those who haven’t secured a place have limited time to do so. The 10 mile distance race has already sold, and as of this week, only 2,000 spaces remain for the 13.1 mile half marathon route - with remaining spots expected to be taken soon.

This year marks the 31st anniversary of what was originally known as the Liverpool International Half Marathon in 1994. With the city now a firm visitor destination with people from across the world, the event attracts runners from far and wide.

In 2024, the event was sold out almost a month before the big day and event organisers, BTR, expect no different this year. If you have already signed up, you will receive your race pack around two weeks before the race date.

  • The Half Marathon Standard Entry fee is £40

The warning comes just days after BTR announced it would be teaming up with Barry's, found on the fifth floor of Flannels, to deliver a series of free classes for those running.
