It looks like Liverpool could be in store for a mixed bag of weather this bank holiday Monday.

Liverpool is forecast for a cloudy bank holiday (May 27) with some sunny spells and chance of showers, according to the Met Office. Sadly it looks like there's no escaping the downpours today - with heavy rain expected around midday and early this afternoon.

Temperatures will reach highs of 14C the forecaster says. The wet weather comes after a week of heavy rain which has battered the region, as Met Office issued a danger to life weather warning.

Although, it does look to be brightening up later in the week with highs of 17C forecast in parts.

The Met Office said: "A mixed day of cloudy periods, sunny spells and the chance of showers. A few of these heavy at first but some places may remain dry. Feeling a bit cooler. Maximum temperature 16 °C."

Any showers will soon clear on Monday night, to leave a dry evening and staying dry overnight with clear periods. Turning quite cool in the countryside. Minimum temperature 5 °C.

Tuesday is looking equally as damp however. Early brightness in the north but skies soon clouding over with outbreaks of rain developing during the morning. Possibly brightening up in the south later with showers. Becoming quite humid. Maximum temperature 18 °C.

Outlook for the remainder of this week:

Staying changeable with a mixture of cloudy periods, sunny spells and scattered showers. These heaviest and most numerous on Wednesday and Thursday. Drier by Friday. Feeling warm in the sunshine, Met Office reported.
