After torrential rain turned Download Festival into a mudbath earlier this month - those heading to Glastonbury this weekend will be hoping for some sunshine and dry weather.

Festival goers will begin heading to the site on Wednesday to set up camp before the three-day music extravaganza kicks off on Friday. Artists playing at this year's festival include Coldplay, Dua Lipa, Cyndi Lauper, The Streets and Avril Lavigne.

And if you are wondering what the weather will be like then early forecasts show it should remain warm and mostly dry. Somerset is likely to see highs of 27C on Wednesday before it begins to cool off later in the week, with temperatures up to 21C from Friday though to Sunday.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "With lots of attention on Somerset as Glastonbury kicks off, the weather is likely to be mostly warm, dry and settled.

"On Wednesday we’re likely to see hotter temperatures of 25C to 27C in Somerset as the sunny weather continues and although it’s not impossible a heavy shower could develop, it’s more likely to remain dry.

"On Thursday as the cold front progresses south-eastwards, it will bring cloudier and slightly breezier conditions through the day and possibly some light rain in the afternoon.

"Friday through to Sunday are forecast to be mostly dry, although largely cloudy, and there is still some uncertainty with some showers remaining possible. Temperatures throughout this period are to be around or slightly above average, with approximate maximum temperatures of 18C to 21C."

This year Dua Lipa, Coldplay and SZA will headline the world-famous Pyramid Stage, while Shania Twain will take the Legends Slot. The full list of performers is huge - but you can also expect to see the likes of Disclosure, Idles, The National, Little Simz, K-pop boyband Seventeen, Avril Lavigne, Cyndi Lauper, Olivia Dean, Anne-Marie, The Last Dinner Party and Camila Cabello.

Glastonbury was founded by Sir Michael Eavis on his Somerset farm in 1970. While he is still involved, his daughter Emily and her husband Nick Dewey now take on the majority of the organisation.

Glastonbury Festival starts on Wednesday, June 26 and runs until Sunday, June 30 - taking place over five days.

The BBC's live coverage will begin on Thursday, when Clara Amfo and Lauren Laverne will be bringing all the action from their studio up on a hill overlooking The Park Stage.
