Met Office hour-by-hour forecast as the hot and sunny weather continues across the North East

It looks like we're in for another scorcher as the summer weather continues across the North East today.

The region's parks and coastlines were packed out all weekend after a spate of beautiful weather, and it's looking like Monday will be more of the same as temperatures set to remain in the early 20s. Although there may be some slight cloud, it's still going to be a hot one, with temperatures peaking from around 1pm.

Some parts of the UK could even be set for a heatwave with temperatures at the highest around Wednesday. But as we get later into the week, things might start to turn a little more unsettled. There is also the chance of some heavy showers or thunderstorms in places, but it is expected this will happen in the west or southwest of the country.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist, Dan Rudman said: “Some central and southern areas are likely to see temperatures approaching the values needed for heatwave conditions. Heatwave conditions need to remain in situ for three consecutive days, and by the beginning to middle of next week it is possible that some parts of the UK could be reaching heatwave thresholds. However, whether or not everyone experiences heatwave thresholds, the majority of the UK will experience the highest temperatures so far this year."
