The sunny weather on Merseyside is set to be interrupted today with a thunderstorm.

People were out and about enjoying the sunny weather in Liverpool yesterday as temperatures reached higher levels than those in Ibiza. While temperatures are expected to remain warm today with highs of 23°C, the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for the area for today.

In place from 1pm until 11pm, the weather agency has warned of heavy showers and thunderstorms across the west of the UK, including Merseyside and the city region.

Isolated property flooding is possible. Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures, along with disruption to public transport.

The Met Office added: “There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost.

“There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life, particularly in places such as road and railway underpasses.

“There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.”

In its forecast for Liverpool today, light showers at 5pm are set to be followed by thunderstorms from 6pm to 7pm. Rain will continue until 10pm. Temperatures will go no lower than 17°C.
