Met Office issues yellow weather warning in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire for heavy rain overnight.

Forecasts are predicting as much as 50mm of rainfall in 12 hours, with warnings issued to those using roads and public transport for potential disruption.

The warning came into force 10 pm tonight (Friday, July 5), and will remain in place until 10 am on Saturday morning (July 6).

Forecasters are warning of potential flooding to homes and businesses, as well as spray and flooding on roads delaying journey times. Bus and rail services are also likely to be affected by the heavy rainfall.

The yellow warning covers the majority of the north-east, with only areas including Ballater and Laurencekirk excluded from the warning area.

The Met Office said: "An area of heavy and quite persistent rain will develop across parts of north and northeast Scotland later on Friday evening, continuing overnight before turning showery on Saturday morning.

"20-30 mm is likely to fall quite widely in around 12 hours but perhaps with around 50 mm in a few areas."
