The Met Office has issued its latest forecast for the weekend and beyond as the temperature is set to rise in Merseyside.

While this week so far has seen some unsettled weather and cooler conditions than last weekend, when people basked in the sunshine and the mercury rose to 24C, the sun is set to put in a big appearance in the coming days.

According to the Met Office Saturday, May 18, is set for sunny intervals, changing to light showers in the afternoon. Sunday, May 19, meanwhile is forecast to be gloriously sunny all day - with highs of 20C predicted for both days.

The milder weather is then set to last into the start of the week, with highs of 19C on Monday and 18C on Tuesday, and plenty of sunshine throughout.

Elsewhere forecasters at Accuweather predict it could feel as warm as 24C in the city on Sunday, with this same "real feel" temperature forecast again on Tuesday, May 21.

The Met Office forecast in full for Saturday reads: "Rather cloudy first thing but also some brightness in places. Sunny spells developing more widely by the afternoon but scattered heavy showers also forming. Feeling warm in the sunshine. Maximum temperature 20C."

For Sunday to Tuesday, its weather experts add: "A mixture of cloud and spells of warm sunshine during this period. Low cloud is possible in the mornings with a small chance of isolated showers, particularly by Tuesday."
