It'll be a wet start to the month for some, while others will bask in 21C sunshine. The Met Office predicts part of the UK to be lashed with heavy rain.

Downpours were expected to be "heaviest in the north", with falling temperatures resulting in a "cool week ahead". However there was good news for tennis fans heading to Wimbledon as the south looks set to hold on to the sunshine, with the mercury set to hit 21C on Monday afternoon, according to The Sun.

The Met Office forecast for Monday, July 1, said it would be "dry in the south and east with early sunshine", however a "band of showery rain" would spread southeastwards across the United Kingdom. It said the rain would be "heaviest in the north" but "patchy further south" although it would be "turning brighter in the northwest later".

Despite a seemingly wet start to the month, another heatwave was expected to hit the UK in a few weeks time. Sweltering temperatures could return as a subtropical Mediterranean airstream looks set to bring in another warm spell.

According to the latest weather maps from Netweather, the upcoming heatwave would reach its peak on Sunday, July 14. Some areas should see highs of around 30C, according to early predictions.
