Wales is set to be blighted by heavy and thundery showers this weekend with events across the country expected to be a washout. Up to 8mm of rainfall per hour could fall in parts on Friday night as blustery showers batter the majority of the country.

Friday night and Saturday morning currently look to be the worst hit with large swathes of heavy rainfall before the downpour slightly breaks up across the afternoon into a dry evening before a wet Sunday. The heavy rain is expected to move into Wales at around 3:30pm on Friday and will continue well into the night.

The wet weather will put a dampener on those hoping to head out to Wales Airshow Display in Swansea on Saturday and Sunday. The red arrows will take to the sky with thousands of visitors expected to descend on the city on both days. The arrows will be able to be spotted across south and mid Wales between 5:44pm and 6:38pm on Saturday, where for the most part it looks to be dry but grey.

In the capital, Cardiff Food and Drink festival is taking place between Friday, July 5 and Sunday, July 7, with hundreds of stall holders descending on Cardiff Bay. The event takes place on Roald Dahl plas and is almost entirely outside and so those intending to make their way should definitely take a brolly.

Gig goers heading to Cardiff Castle on Friday and Saturday night for the Manic Street Preachers should also have their rain coats at the ready, with Friday expected to be particularly wet with between 6-8mm of rain expected at around 7pm. It's worth noting that umbrellas are banned from the Castle for the gig - you can read about what else is prohibited here.
