The Met Office has issued a new ten hour yellow rain warning as Coventry is set for soaking today. The alert lists a number of areas across the region set to be hit by heavy rain.

Coventry and Warwickshire are among those listed under the yellow rain warning. It comes into force at 1pm today and lasts until 11pm tonight (May 16).

It warns that 'heavy rain may produce some flooding and transport disruption' and could see 40 to 60mm of rain in just a few hours. The West Midlands area is set to bear the brunt of the heavy rain sweeping the country this afternoon.

Rain has already started to fall in parts of our region, with Nuneaton seeing showers but the heavy band of rain is set to strike later this afternoon.

" An area of heavy rain is expected to move west across parts of England and then into Wales during today," the Met Office warning states.

"There remains some uncertainty as to how far north or south this band of rain will be, but there is a small chance that it will become slow-moving over parts of the West Midlands and northwest England, as well as into Wales later this afternoon and early evening. Should this happen then some places could see 40-60 mm of rain falling in 3-6 hours."
