Meta Revives Modern Family for WhatsApp Commercial — Watch Video

Four years after the Emmy-winning ABC comedy aired its series finale, series stars Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson are reprising their roles as Phil, Claire, Cameron and Mitchell in a new commercial for WhatsApp.

The 30-second spot (which you can watch above) sees the foursome back in the Dunphy family living room. Phil, Claire and Cam are talking about a “precious” photo of Haley and Dylan’s twins — George and Poppy, who would be 5 years old now — when Mitchell enters and learns that he didn’t receive it because he’s been left off the family group chat. (Good going, Phil!)

Mitchell proceeds to “shame” his fam, just like old times, at which point Cam chimes in and tells his hubby, “It’s not you. It’s your new phone.”

As his sister points out, ever since he got a new phone — let’s assume it runs on Android (#GreenBubble) — he’s been sending everyone “blurry photos,” so they started a chain without him. Thankfully, the Dunphys’ house painter is eavesdropping, and he has a solution: “If your group has different phones, just use WhatsApp. It’s seamless and private.”

Later that night, we see that Mitchell’s been added to the “Fam Jam” group text.

Shortly after the commercial went live on YouTube, Stonestreet shared a doctored reunion photo on his Instagram, writing: “It was fun getting some of the band back together.”

In response, Ferguson replied, “I refuse to engage with this.”
