Nexus has launched a limited edition Metro Pop card featuring LGBTQ+ icons ahead of Northern Pride 2024.

The card features icons of the community, including Freddie Mercury, David Bowie, Marsha P Johnson, Claude Cahun and Audre Lorde; and is designed by creative designer Em T Sharp. The public body has also worked with drag artist and comedian Miss Rory, who has recorded a series of special announcements for the Metro public address system which will be heard around Pride.

Huw Lewis, customer services director at Nexus said that the new Pop card designs were a way to champion inclusivity. He said: "We hope the design will spark a positive conversation as people learn more about these inspirational figures of queer culture.

"These new Pop cards are a limited edition so anyone who would like to get one will need to pick one up quickly. We want everyone to feel welcome, safe, and free from discrimination whenever they choose to travel with us."

As an accessibility partner for Northern Pride, Nexus will provide a free shuttle bus at this year's festival helping attendees get around the city to visit all the places Northern Pride is being held in the new Pride in the City format.

The limited-edition LGBTQIA+ icons Metro Pop cards will be available at Northern Pride in Newcastle from July 19 - 21 at the Market Village next to Grey's Monument.
