Miami Dolphins offensive player to watch for week two

Suffering a week one loss against the Seattle Seahawks may not have come as a shock to some Miami Dolphins’ fans, but the way the team lost was still upsetting to say the least. However, week one is now behind us and it’s on to week two. This week, the Dolphins travel into the north east to take on the division juggernaut New England Patriots.

Every week this season, we will spend one day a week taking a look at the offensive player to watch and one day on the defensive player to watch from the Miami Dolphins. For the second week of the season I am trying to stay away from obvious picks. For this weeks game, running back Jay Ajayi will need to redeem himself for his sulking incident last week that saw him be left in Miami. His performance will surely be one to keep an eye on.

Jay Ajayi — Running Back

Suffering due to a poor performance from the offensive line, Arian Foster’s first game in a Miami Dolphins’ uniform did not go as planned. Averaging less than three-yards per carry, Foster’s game was highlighted by a 50-yard catch and run but little else. With Ajayi backing him up, the running game may have a better shot at a good performance this week.

During the game at Seattle, only three players actually committed a running play on offense. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill and running backs Foster and Damien Williams. Foster’s carries attributed to less than 75% of those runs. Without a solid running attack, Miami was forced to try and rely on their passing attack last week.

With Jay Ajayi contributing in the rushing attack this week, Foster should see a higher yards per carry total thanks to any rest he might receive. Ajayi will also be a benefit in the offense as a whole thanks to his ability catching passes out of the backfield.

Though he will not be starting the game, Ajayi’s presence will hopefully lead to an improvement in the offense’s production as a whole. With Foster’s injury problems always a concern, Ajayi’s return should also see the longevity of Foster rise this season, something the veteran tail back desperately needs at this stage of his career.
