Yahoo News Michael Bay making Dora the Explorer movie. Wait, WTF?
News that Nickelodeon's Dora the Explorer is being turned into a Hollywood blockbuster probably isn't that surprising, right? But what if we tell you that Transformers' Michael Bay is the one making it?!
That may seem way too bizarre to be true, but it is in fact the case! Deadline reports that Bay's production company will produce an updated live-action Dora the Explorer film for Paramount.
Bay has handed over directing duties to Nicholas Stoller, the filmmaker who brought you Seth Rogen and Zac Efron's raunchy sex comedy Bad Neighbours.
Before you start having nightmares about Dora downing booze from a kegger, keep in mind that Stoller also worked on more gentle fare like Muppets Most Wanted.
This version of the Nick cartoon does age up Dora to being an adventurous teenager, who moves to the big city to live with her cousin Diego. No word yet on if Swiper is going to be re-envisioned as an evil hipster.
Paramount Pictures seems quite confident in its Dora the Explorer movie, so confident in fact that the studio has slotted it into a 2019 release.
The original Dora the Explorer cartoon ran for more than 170 episodes across 14 years on the air. Its popularity spun a hugely popular toy line, video games and direct-to-DVD movies.
Dora the Explorer earned praise throughout its run for its focus on diversity, even winning a Peabody Award for its emphasis on educating its pre-school age viewers.
