Friends of Dr Michael Mosley have taken to social media to pay condolences after a body was found following a five-day search for the TV star.

Mosley, 67, was with friends at Agios Nikolaos beach in Symi, Wednesday (June 5), before going for a walk alone. When he had not returned to his accommodation after a number of hours, his wife - Dr Clare Bailey - reported concerns to local police.

A five-day search across Symi followed, with police, search dogs, drones, helicopters, the Red Cross and even islanders all coming together to search for Dr Mosley. And on Sunday morning, a body, which is yet to be formally identified, was found beneath a fence that runs around the bar on Agia Marina beach.

Picked up by a search team using high-focus cameras to scour the area, the bar manager was asked to inspect the scene - confirming that there was a body. After the find was confirmed, celebrities and friends of Dr Mosley took to social media.

Academic and broadcaster Alice Roberts shared three pictures on social media with Mosley, with whom she first worked on her 2009 TV series Human Journey. She wrote: "I’ve known Michael Mosley for many years – as a TV producer specialising in science and medicine.

"He was the executive producer of my 2009 series Human Journey. When he started presenting as well as producing, we made several science programmes together. And we met up at Hay Festival just 2 weeks ago." Meanwhile, Mosley’s co-presenter on Trust Me, I’m A Doctor described him as a “national treasure” and a “hugely talented” man.

Dr Saleyha Ahsan told BBC news: "Michael’s a national treasure and he’s so personable."

Former deputy leader of Labour, Tom Watson described Mosley as a 'hero' adding: "It’s hard to describe how upset I am by this news. Through courageous, science-based journalism, Michael Mosley has helped thousands of people get well and healthy. I’m one of them."

Author, TV writer and former doctor Adam Kay meanwhile said it was “desperately sad” to hear the news that a body had been found - while Piers Morgan wrote on X: "BREAKING: Body found in search for TV doctor Michael Mosley on Greek island of Symi. Very sad development."

Chef Jamie Oliver added that it was "absolutely devastating news" while presenter Carol Vorderman said it was "very sad news".

Formal identification of the body is yet to take place. A police source told the BBC the deceased person had been dead 'for a number of days'.
