Yahoo News Michael Strahan Wore a Blue ‘Star Trek’-Inspired De Bethune Watch at the Knicks Game
Former New York Giants star Michael Strahan just made another giant horological statement.
The hall of famer-turned-broadcaster wore a dazzling De Bethune timepiece to watch the New York Knicks play the Oklahoma City Thunder at Madison Square Garden on Sunday.

De Bethune's Bonkers New Blue Titanium Watch Looks Like Something Out of 'Star Trek'
Released in 2018, the DB28 Kind Of Blue Zirconium could be considered one of the originators of the colorful dial trend. Blue-hued dials have long been favored by watchmakers but were catapulted into the zeitgeist with several notable releases by Rolex, Patek Philippe, and the like. (Who could forget the arrival of Tiffany Blue Nautilus in 2021?) Last year, De Bethune unveiled the DB2X8XP Kind of Blue, a mashup of its DB28XP and DB28 Kind of Blue models. Like its predecessor, the timepiece’s striking blue hue isn’t just limited to the dial.
Save for the 42.6 mm zirconium case, practically every bit of metal on the watch is bright blue. To achieve this, De Bethune didn’t add some sort of PVD coating but rather flame-blued the titanium by hand. The entirely natural process is also how some watchmakers blue screws. The distinctive shade has since become synonymous with the Swiss watchmaker and a signature of the “Kind of Blue” series.
The show-stopping blued titanium dial features a distinctive triangular bridge shape reminiscent of the Star Trek communicator badge. Under the sapphire crystal a performance indicator sits between 2 and 3 o’clock and a spherical moon-phase indicator lies at 6 o’clock. The latter complication is so precise that it will only be off by a day once every 122 years, according to De Bethune.
As for the inner workings, the timepiece is powered by the in-house Caliber DB2115V4. The hand-wound mechanical movement comprises 279 parts, some of which are hand-decorated with “Cotes De Bethune” and other fancy finishes. The movement also provides a power reserve of six days, no less.
De Bethune has produced just 10 examples of this reference (DB28BZN) since 2018, one of which is on the wrist of Strahan. The ex-footballer is no stranger to striking wrist candy. He wore a Patek Philippe Nautilus Travel Time Chronograph 5990/1R-001 to the 2023 Super Bowl. The six-figure sports watch features an 18-karat rose-gold case and a blue sunburst dial with three complications. Strahan has clearly embraced the colorful dial trend, then.
