Former The Only Way Is Essex cast member Mick Norcross was found dead in his basement, an inquest has heard.

A two-minute opening for the inquest heard that the businessman, who rose to fame in the series as the owner of the Sugar Hut nightclub, died at his home in Bulphan, Essex, on 21 January.

Coroner’s officer Sarah Lee said during the hearing that he was found in his home’s basement.

“Paramedics attended and sadly pronounced him dead,” Lee said.

“Police attended, all protocols were followed, and his death was confirmed as non-suspicious.”

Assistant coroner for Essex Michelle Brown said the hearing was waiting for post-mortem and toxicology reports.

“Also, I understand that mobile phone downloads and iPads are being looked into by the police,” she said.

“We also have a very detailed letter from a family member.”

Norcross first appeared during TOWIE’s second series in 2011, and left the show in 2013 after he said the club – which hosted several arguments between cast members – had had its brand damaged by appearing in the series.

Stars Gemma Collins, James Argent and Lauren Goodger were among those who paid tribute to him on social media.

His son Kirk, 32, was in the show’s original line-up.

The inquest will resume on 22 July.
