Middlesbrough have moved to assure supporters that more stock of their new home and away shirts are in the country and on their way to Teesside after unprecedented demand for both.

Boro launched their new kits on Saturday having unveiled the new home kit earlier in the week. The away shirt went on sale on the same day, with a surprise launch of the new sky blue and white striped Argentine-esque away kit inspired by the 1998-99 change kit.

It was the away kit in particular that proved popular, with all sizes currently sold out in the club store. As for the home shirt, seven of the 11 adult sizes available - ranging from small to 8XL have also sold out. Worry not if you're still yet to get your hands on a replica kit, however, with a club promising more stock is arriving soon.

They released an update reading: "Both shirts have proven extremely popular since their respective unveilings last week, with the away shirt in particular sparking unprecedented demand over the first few days since its release. We appreciate your patience while staff in our retail store process what has been a record volume of orders as quickly as possible.

"Further stock is already in the UK for processing, and is due to arrive with us in stages shortly. Any outstanding online orders will continue to be processed and dispatched for delivery or made available for collection as this further stock arrives. We will also keep supporters updated as to the availability of the away shirt in-store at the Riverside."

The update will no doubt be relief to many supporters after Boro, like many clubs, struggled with stocking issues with new kits in recent years. The issues are linked to production delays in Asia as a hangover from the pandemic as well as the rise of shipping prices in recent years, meaning limited amounts of football kits coming to the UK.

The club statement also noted that they had been made aware of confirmation emails not being received after placing online orders. They said the fault had now been rectified and those who didn't receive an email can still view their order by logging into their account on the online store.

"Regardless of receiving this initial confirmation, supporters should rest assured that all orders are continuing to be processed as quickly as possible, and - as has been the case throughout - a further email will be sent once ready for collection if you selected the Click & Collect option at the checkout," the club statement said.

They closed with a thank you to supporters, saying: "The club has been delighted by the response to our new shirts and once again, we thank supporters for their patience and understanding as we endeavour to process all orders as quickly as possible."
