A well known face who appeared as a guest star in the comeback of Midsomer Murders on Sunday night had admitted they were left 'terrified' on set, after being put in possession of a rather dangerous prop.

Nearly three decades since its debut on ITV, the much loved mystery drama is back in its familiar slot on a Sunday night for a brand new series, as Barnaby and Winter attempted to get to the bottom of the death of a man founded dead in a bombproof shelter, in feature length tale The Blacktrees Prophecy. And, as well as familiar faces like Neil Dudgeon and Nick Hendrix making their return, there was also a role for well known comedian Kate Robbins.

A star of hit ITV soap Crossroads in the 80s, Kate, mum of Emily Atack, went onto be in the cast of shows like Spitting Image, Dinnerladies and more recently in Ricky Gervais' Netflix smash After Life. And on Sunday night, she made quite an entrance on her Midsomer Murders debut, as Lyra Kaine, who threatened Wilson with a crossbow, around half an hour into the show's return.

Kate previewed her appearance in the hit programme's 23rd series on X (Twitter) where she shared a photo of herself in costume, along with the caption: 'I was let loose with a crossbow. Don't try this at home!' Above the shot she then wrote: 'I was terrified to even hold a crossbow!' as viewers were quick to react to seeing her on screen and being startled by her entrance.
