Mike Tindall on I'm a Celebrity: 4 times Zara's husband has revealed inside stories about the royals

Mike Tindall is set to become the first royal to appear on ITV's I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!

Tindall, the former England rugby player who is married to the late Queen’s granddaughter Zara Tindall, was reported by The Sun to have arrived at Brisbane Airport in Australia on Friday.

Confirming his appearance on the show, he told the newspaper: "I was always on the fence but I do think it will be good fun at the end of the day. That is the other thing, I like groups of people and I like things that can be good fun so let’s see. I might regret it."

It will reignite the debate surrounding Tindall and his wife cashing in on their royal status - especially if he ends up broadcasting insider stories about the Royal Family while in the jungle.

It's something Tindall has form for. Here are four stories about the royals he has shared in the past...

'The Queen approved plane to transport her coffin'

Last month, Tindall claimed the Queen approved a plane that repatriated the bodies of British soldiers to transport her own coffin with the words: “If it’s good enough for my boys, it’s good enough for me.”

Ahead of her state funeral, the Queen’s coffin was flown from Edinburgh airport to RAF Northolt in west London on a RAF Globemaster C-17 aircraft.

Tindall, who was speaking on The Good, The Bad & The Rugby podcast he co-hosts, added he could not verify the story, which was sent to him by an “ex-army friend”.

But he said: “It wasn’t the original plane picked and they had to change it, and they went for this big old [RAF] plane to make it more dignified.”

Tindall claimed the Queen had signed off the change of aircraft, used to repatriate the bodies of military personnel from Afghanistan, with the words: “If it’s good enough for my boys, it’s good enough for me.”

He added: “And that in itself just sort of sums it up.”

Prince Louis's sugar highs

Tindall revealed the cause of Prince Louis’s boisterous behaviour in the royal box during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Pageant in June: sugar highs.

Tindall, speaking on his podcast, said: “Louis was just wanting to have fun, and my two [children] are always mischievous, so it was [about] trying to keep a lid on.

“There were a lot of sweets out back there, so they had complete sugar highs. It’s tough for them, they’re all young sitting there from two to five or whatever. It’s a long time, as any parent knows you just do what needs to be done.”

A Royal Family WhatsApp group

In February, Tindall revealed there is a WhatsApp group of Royal Family members.

He was discussing the then Duchess of Cambridge joining an England training session at Twickenham in her new role as patron of the Rugby Football Union.

Again speaking on his podcast, he said he had wanted to tease Kate about any errors she made during the session with players including Leicester Tigers prop Ellis Genge.

He said: “I text Ellis and said ‘mate, please tell me anything she messed up on’ so I could sort of, family WhatsApp group, get into her.

“And he said ‘no she was actually pretty good, and she was really good at kicking’ and I was like…” Tindall proceeded to let out a large sigh.

“She has this competitive nature where she has to be good at things.”

‘They spot the people who look nervous and take away the tension’

In 2018, ahead of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding, Tindall explained what it’s like to marry into the Royal Family and recalled how his family was treated the night before his wedding to Zara Phillips in 2011.

“We had a drinks event the night before and they are professional meeters and greeters,” he enthused on Good Morning Britain. “I remember my family were in a corner and a little bit out of their comfort zone because it’s not where they are used to being.

“But the best thing about the Royal Family is that they are so lovely and they’ll spot the people who are looking a little bit nervous and go straight over and take away all of that tension straight out of the room, and that’s what they are amazing at.

“Then suddenly you’re in the family and they welcome you with welcome arms.”

Meghan, as has been well documented, has recounted vastly different experiences of marrying into the Royal Family in the years since her wedding.
