The Ministry of Defence has confirmed a police investigation after a man was found seriously injured on a road near Okehampton Army Camp. It is unclear how the man sustained his injuries and Devona and Cornwall Police has been investigation what happened at the scene throughout the morning.

The man was found at around 1.30am today (Friday, May 10) near the camp and was taken to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital with serious injuries not believed to be life threatening or life changing. Officers closed the main road tp the camp while making their enquiries, prompting a disruption warning for anyone heading to the site for the Ten Tors challenge this weekend.

Tavistock Police confirmed diversion routes would be in place for the thousands of attendees expected to arrive today. A spokesperson for the Army has since confirmed all diversion have been lifted and access to the camp is open as usual.

An MOD spokesperson said: “Following an investigation by Devon and Cornwall Police of an incident which took place on a road near to Okehampton Camp, we can confirm that all diversions have now been lifted and the road is open for access to camp in advance of the Ten Tors event.”

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police told DevonLive: "Police are investigating the circumstances that could have led to a man becoming injured on a road near Okehampton Army Camp. Officers were called by the ambulance service after a man was found with serious injuries at around 1.30am today, Friday 10 May.

"He was taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening or life changing. A police cordon has been put in place at the scene in Okehampton and enquiries are ongoing."

Thousands of young people from across the South West are expected to arrive at Okehampton Army Camp today before setting off on a 35, 45 or 55 mile trek across open moorland for the annual Ten Tors event, which is organised by the Army's South West Headquarters at Okehampton with support from the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force.
