The Loose Women set was filled with laughter during Thursday's ITV daytime show when Miriam Margolyes accidentally swore live on air. The beloved 83-year-old actress was discussing her newly-written memoir, Oh Miriam, with host Kaye Adams and fellow panellists Denise Welch, Olivia Attwood-Dack, and Nadia Sawalha.

When asked why she decided to write a book at this point in her career the candid Margolyes had the panel laughing by joking: "Because they paid me". Intrigued, Kaye probed further: "Can they pay you to do anything, Miriam?" That's when the star responded with a remark that was immediately bleeped out, triggering another round of laughter and leaving Denise visibly shocked and Kaye shaking her head in disbelief.

Attempting to regain composure the giggling Miriam asked: "Am I allowed to say that? Oh dear." She then added to the hilarity by firmly stating she had her boundaries, telling the panel: "I wouldn't eat faeces.", reports the Manchester Evening News. Playing along Kaye thanked her guest, saying: "Thank you. We do love the preferred name," as laughter continued to echo throughout the studio. Nadia tried to redirect the conversation by posing a new question but ended up stumbling over her words.

Miriam later shed light on the creation of her book, which is full of personal and lively experiences. She confessed that legal advice was sought for some of its content given it might contain potentially defamatory comments. "It had to be excised by the legal people" she conceded. "I said things about people I didn't like that could be libellous and don't want to get into a lawsuit."

There was shared amusement among Loose Women viewers over Margolyes' remarks. One user on X, formerly Twitter, wrote: "#loosewomen Love Miriam Margolyes @loosewomen @ITV" complementing the tweet with an array of laughing emojis. Another viewer's comment read: "Potty mouth #loosewomen", while others expressed their admiration: "I like her!"

Even more tellingly, another enthusiast appeared to uphold the actress's direct approach, observing: "Miriam Margolyes wouldn't 'eat s***' for money @loosewomen #bleeped." For the latest TV and showbiz news sign up to our newsletter.
