Mischa Barton reveals heartbreak and ‘humiliation’ over leaked sex tape

Actress Mischa Barton has opened up about her sex tape ordeal in the hopes of preventing other women from having to suffer the same “pain and humiliation.”

The former OC star appeared at a press conference in Los Angeles on Wednesday, at which her lawyer, who recently obtained a court restraining order over the video and photographs, answered questions on her behalf.

Mischa didn’t take any questions from the press herself, but she did speak about the moment her “worst fear” was realised after she discovered her ex-boyfriend had not only filmed her without consent, but also tried to monetise the X-rated footage.

The Hollywood actress said: “I just want to say that I have been put through an incredibly hard and trying time.

“This is a painful situation and my absolute worst fear was realised when I learned that someone I thought I loved and trusted was filming my most intimate and private moments, without my consent, with hidden cameras.

“Then I learned something even worse, that someone is trying to sell these videos and make them public.”

She continued: “I came forward to fight this not only for myself but for all the women out there. I want to protect them from the pain and humiliation that I have had to go through.

“No woman should have to go through this. It is a very hard thing to do but I am glad that I’m finally standing up for myself.”

Her attorney Lisa Bloom argued that the release of the tapes is a form of domestic abuse, telling reporters that the courts had “blocked the showing or giving away” of the footage, and that those who violated the order could face a prison sentence.

She said: “Revenge porn is a very common crime. It happens to a lot of people. It happens to people who are not celebrities.

“It happens to the girls and women who are followers of Ms Barton. And it’s scary, even for a celebrity, to stand up like this but it’s important for the girls and women to stand up for our rights.”
