An unknown person is reportedly using the Instagram account of missing Jay Slater, his loved ones have said. The search for the 19-year-old has entered its sixth day, with search efforts continuing in Tenerife.

Helicopters, rescue dogs and drones have been scrambled as part of efforts to locate him. No one has heard from Jay since he spoke to his friend Lucy on the morning of Monday, June 17.

It is understood Jay's Instagram has been used since he went missing. But loved ones insist it has not been accessed by Jay or his mother Debbie Duncan.

Family and friends are currently using a Facebook group to share updates on the search. A post read: "Jay's mums asked I post this... For everyone asking who has logged into his instagram account, it’s not him or her, somebody else has logged into it."

The post has been liked more than 500 times. Jay - from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire - called friend Lucy to tell her he was lost, needed a drink and had just one per cent battery on his phone.

It is understood he was attempting the long walk back to his accommodation after missing a bus. The walk from Jay's last known location to his accommodation would have taken about 11 hours on foot.

The apprentice bricklayer had gone to the NRG music festival on the Spanish island with two friends before his disappearance. Police, firefighters and search teams combed a vast area of land in and around the village of Masca on Friday, June 21.

A post on Facebook on Friday told how friends and family were 'drained beyond words'. Some family members - including Jay's mum Debbie - have flown out to Tenerife to help search efforts.

Debbie said searching for her son was 'an absolute living nightmare'. She told ITV News: "He's the life and soul, he's a beautiful boy."
