Missing teen Jay Slater seen 'walking alone' by Tenerife locals before vanishing

A Tenerife local has revealed details about the two British men Jay Slater was last seen with before he vanished.

Jay Slater, 19, went missing on Monday morning after he left with two other men while out with friends in the Canary Islands after attending a three-day music festival. On Monday morning, June 17, while attempting to walk back to the south of the island, Jay called his friend Lucy Mae Law letting her know his phone battery was at just 1 per cent.

A woman identified only as Araceli, who works in the business next to the rental property, stated: "I never saw the missing boy, but I know people saw him walking on his own. I saw the two British men who stayed here. They came in for cafe con leche a couple of times. One was aged about 40. The other one was slightly younger," reports the Mirror.

The woman confirmed: "The police have spoken to them both [the British men]. They arrived on Saturday and were due to stay until Monday, but they left on Tuesday."

When asked if they had to remain to be interviewed by the local cops, she responded: "I don't know."

The holiday home was apparently rented by these two men who were with Jay before he went missing, but b oth men have checked out of their accommodation and flown back to the UK yesterday.

Jay had posted a photo of himself, cigarette in hand, on the steps of the property shortly before he vanished.

Lucy Mae Law, a friend of Jay's, raised the alarm after receiving a call from him around 8am on Monday.

Jay, an apprentice bricklayer from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, told his pal he was walking back to their accommodation in the south of the island, feeling thirsty and had only 1 per cent battery left on his phone.

The phone went dead shortly afterwards, and his last known location was traced to the Rural de Teno area, a mountainous region of the island.

The teen's parents and brother have since flown out to assist with the search in Tenerife

Lucy has said she isn't happy with the efforts of the Civil Guard, and is now demanding the British police help with the search for her friend.

She said: "We need British police here. I just want to find my mate. He's been missing three days. It's not looking good now. We feel as though it's down to us to find him and that we're doing more than the police."

Cops in Tenerife have been conducting searches in a rural mountainous area in the northwest of the island, near the village of Masca, where Jay was last traced.

Since then, further information has come to light about the two men he was last seen with on Sunday night, as images of the rental property, Casa Abuela Tina, where he was reportedly staying, have also surfaced.
