Missionary who posed as doctor ‘to blame for nearly 100 baby deaths’

An female missionary from America who posed as a doctor in Uganda is to blame for nearly 100 baby deaths, according to reports.

Renee Bach, from Virginia, is accused of donning a white coat and stethoscope and performing minor medical procedures on sickly children, many of whom were suffering from malnutrition.

The 35-year-old is said to have performed the procedures at a private clinic in her home in Uganda.

While working there, The Times reported scores of deaths were recorded.

Two mothers have claimed Ms Bach is responsible for the deaths of their babies who died at the clinic, which was run by charity Serving His Children (SHC)

The pair have brought legal action against Ms Bach.

A statement to the high court in Jinja by the Women’s Probono Initiative, a group supporting the parents, claimed that she “misled unsuspecting vulnerable members of the public”. Her actions were “unacceptable and narcissistic”.

Although the case focuses on two babies, the organisation believes that Ms Bach’s charity is linked to hundreds of deaths.

According to documents filed, the clinic was ordered to close by local health authorities in 2015 but Ms Bach continued to take in children who needed medical attention.

The babies of the case’s two complainants, Gimbo Zubeda and Kakai Rose, were among those who died at the SHC facility after Ms Bach failed to shut its doors.

The charity SHC is funded by American donors and describes itself as “God-breathed and directed ministry working to end malnutrition”, but does not mention Ms Bach’s role.
