Mobility scooter rider caught on camera running over pigeon

Watch: Hunt for man who ran over pigeon in mobility scooter

Police are investigating reports an elderly man on a mobility scooter rider ran over a pigeon and then crushed it with his walking stick.

A wildlife group released CCTV footage of the incident in which the elderly man appears to swerve at the bird and hit it, before looking round at the remnants of the bird.

The group, called Peck Savers, claims that while the pigeon survived the initial attack, the man then go out of the scooter to crush it with a walking stick.

It is not clear whether the man deliberately targeted the pigeon or was swerving to avoid a drain cover on the pavement.

The incident happened on 7 November outside a self-proclaimed "pigeon-positive" vegan shop in Norwich, Norfolk, whose owner also runs the Facebook page Peck Savers, described as a "pro-active pigeon page".

Jenny Coupland, the shop owner, has since reported the incident to the police.

The post on the Peck Savers Facebook group reads: "Deliberate or not? Please share! We are trying to find out who this man is to help the Police with their enquiries.

"He seemed to swerve to hit a pigeon who was resting on the pavement... So if anyone knows who he is, or if you witnessed this, please let us know so we can forward the info.

"Or indeed, if the man is innocent and has an explanation for his behaviour, that too can also be sorted out with the Police."

Campaigners claim the man later got out of his scooter and crushed the bird with his walking stick. (SWNS)
