Yahoo News Modern Family star returns to ABC with new comedy
Modern Family star Ty Burrell has landed his next lead TV role.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor, best known for playing Phil Dunphy in the hit comedy series, will return to screens on the ABC network in new show Forgive and Forget.
Similar to Modern Family, the show is described as a multi-camera comedy with a family focus, only this time the action centres on a rekindled father-son relationship.
Burrell plays Hank, a colourful character known for being the life and soul of the party. After receiving an unexpected health diagnosis, he decides to reconnect with his now-adult, sensible son Ben, in the hopes of making new memories together.

In addition to his on-camera role, Burrell will also act as executive producer on the show, through his production company Desert Whale Productions. Forgive and Forget will also be produced by the same production company behind Modern Family.
The comedy series is penned by writer Eugene Garcia-Cross, whose previous credits include Peacock's Punky Brewster and Disney+'s The Santa Clauses, starring Buzz Lightyear actor Tim Allen.
Allen's new comedy series Shifting Gears has coincidentally also been picked up by ABC, which marks the network's second upcoming multi-camera sitcom show, alongside Burrell's Forgive and Forget.

As for more Modern Family action, star Jesse Tyler Ferguson revealed last year that he has seen a spin-off script, but that the project was later shelved.
According to the Mitchell actor, the spin-off series was set to centre on his character and Eric Stonestreet's Cameron Tucker and their new lives in Missouri with their children.
"There were discussions and I think the network decided against it," he told ET at the time. "I think they were just wondering if maybe this is the right family to still tell the story.
"I think they were – you know, we'd been on air for 11 years and I think they were ready to move in a different direction."
Fans of the long-running sitcom more recently saw its stars, including Tyler Ferguson and Ty Byrell, reunite at the 2024 SAG awards to present the award for Ensemble in a Comedy Series, won by The Bear.
Modern Family aired on ABC in the US and Sky One/NOW TV in the UK.
