Fire crews remain on the scene of a major fire which broke out at a chemical factory on Tuesday. North Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed their crews were still "damping down" the fire which broke out at the Synthite factory in Mold at about 2pm yesterday.

A spokesman said: "We continue to advise residents to keep their windows and doors closed and switch off air conditioning whilst crews remain in the area. Thank you for your co-operation."

One person was taken to hospital with minor injuries after the blaze broke out. The fire service said they were supported by police, paramedics, Flintshire Council, Public Health Wales and Natural Resources Wales.

In a statement issued on Tuesday evening, the fire service said the fire broke out in the production area of the factory. They said: "Whilst the fire is now considered to be under control, it is expected that crews will remain at the scene for a number of hours damping down the fire.

"Anyone in the area still affected by smoke should keep their doors and windows closed and switch off any air conditioning. Drivers who have to travel through smoke should keep windows closed, turn off air conditioning and keep air vents closed.

"A multi-agency response is working to bring the incident to a safe conclusion, and roads in the area will remain closed until it is safe to reopen them. Thank you for your ongoing co-operation."
