This is the incredible moment that a proud dad plants a rainbow flag into the pocket of an unsuspecting Edinburgh anti-gay protestor.

Dan Bretherton was enjoying Edinburgh Pride along with his daughter and his daughter’s partner when he spotted the man on the Royal Mile in the city.

Dan was holding a small version of the iconic flag – a symbol of LGBT pride – and decided to offer some colour to the bearded man’s views by sliding the flag into his rucksack.

The daring stunt was captured on camera over the weekend as thousands marched around Edinburgh to celebrate their identity.

Video footage shows the moment that the protestor walks by with his placard which reads: “God’s way one man, one woman, on marriage. Jesus is lord.”

While many give the man a withering look, Dan goes one step further and creeps up behind the man before dropping the colourful flag into his pocket.

As the protestor walks up the Royal Mile, he unknowingly brings a small symbol of the LGBT community with him.

Dan quickly returns to the side of the road as people whoop and cheer for his audacious stunt whilst his wife says: “Wooo, well done Dan.”

The dad sported a black t-shirt which was decorated with a half and half design on the front showing a rainbow in traditional rainbow colours and the blue and pink of the transgender pride flag.

Two hands form a love heart underneath, again with one a rainbow and the other a blue and pink fist. The words “Proud Dad” are also emblazoned across the front of the t-shirt that Dan opted to wear whilst celebrating pride.

His cheeky stunt was shared online over the weekend to social media with the caption: “Girlfriend’s dad has made a little bit of mischief with Edinburgh Pride’s singular anti-gay protestor.”

A third commented: “This is a good ally.” Another replied: “He’s so proud of himself, that’s so cute.”

Edinburgh Pride celebrated their 30th march this year having first began in 1994 and is known as being Scotland’s longest-running free celebration of the LGBT community in the country.
