Hero RNLI workers, along with the South Queensferry Coastguard, raced to rescue a stranded dog off the Granton coast on Sunday.

The pooch, Rocky, had become stuck on rocks near Gypsy Brae. Crews arrived within 15 minutes of receiving the call, and managed to secure the dog and transfer him into a lifeboat.

He was then reunited with owners, and was "completely fine" despite his adventure. RNLI Queensferry said he "enjoyed his ride" on the lifeboat.

RNLI Queensferry Lifeboat posted: "It has been a busy couple of weeks for Queensferry Lifeboat.

"From our open weekend two weekends ago, to six pager activations in seven days - of which four resulted in launches, to our newest helm having his first shout taking command of the lifeboat up to yesterday and our most recent rescue of a friendly four-legged casualty. On Sunday 19 May, four of our volunteer crew members had been out on a training exercise exercise and had just recovered the lifeboat at Hawes Pier when a call came in about a dog stuck on rocks near Gypsy Brae, Granton.

"The same crew immediately relaunched the lifeboat and made best speed to the scene, meeting with South Queensferry Coastguard who had managed to get down to the rocks and secure the dog. The dog and two Coastguard Rescue Team members were transferred to the lifeboat for safest extraction and transported to Granton Harbour where Rocky was reunited with his owners.

"We are pleased to report that Rocky was completely fine after his rocky adventure and enjoyed his ride on the lifeboat."

One witness said: "They climbed onto the rocks and lifted the poor little dog to safety into the lifeboat. It was heart-stopping, so glad the dog is safe and well."
