The M5 on the edge of Gloucestershire towards Bristol is to be affected by a month of closures for roadworks. National Highways says drivers using the M5 Junction 14 (Falfield Interchange) to Junction 17 (Cribbs Causeway) will need to to plan their journeys and allow extra time ahead of the overnight closures.

National Highways has said the closures are needed to allow for concrete repairs to the Almondsbury bridge deck and to install new bridge deck joints, with work on schedule to finish ahead of the summer getaway. In order to complete the work, closures will take place from 9pm in the evening until 5am the following morning over several weeks.

Closures take place begin this Friday and continue well into May. Signed diversions will be in place.

National Highways said: "To minimise disruption, work will be carried out overnight when there are fewer vehicles on the road. During the day the road will be open as usual.

"We'll make every effort to ensure the impact on the local community is kept to a minimum, and apologise in advance for any inconvenience these works may cause. Please accept our apologies for the late notice of tonight's closure on this occasion.

"A clearly signed diversion route will be in place for traffic."
