More than 100 electric cars on Brighton seafront for vehicle rally

More than 100 electric cars were on display on the seafront after completing an efficiency challenge to the city.

Spectators lined Madeira Drive to watch the cars silently roll into Brighton and find out more about owning an electric vehicle.

Futuristic cars, buses and even lorries joined dozens of Tesla, Hyundai and BYD electric vehicles in a bid to promote the eco-friendly mode of transport.

The cars set off from Westminster on Saturday morning bound for the coastal resort with drivers taking the most efficient route.

Hardcore motorists even continued to Geneva on the rally, taking the Newhaven ferry and stopping off in Paris enroute.

Former Top Gear host Quentin Wilson hosted a Q&A session on the future of electric mobility. He said: "With the current levels of innovation and research and design, the next decade promises to be the most exciting in the entire 120-year history of the car."

Event organisers Harrison Hughes and Bill Murray said: "With over 121 entrants this year, it is the biggest event we have staged so far and is now the single biggest international electric vehicle event in Europe.

"We had 30 teams join us from Paris to Brighton, and our French cousins were delighted at the thousands of people who came out to support the event over the course of the day."
