More confirmed player news from Witton Albion and Northwich Victoria

WITTON Albion have confirmed their first pieces of recruitment and retention news of the off-season as pre-season gets underway.

They have announced the signing of winger Wealth DaSilva, whose former clubs include neighbours Winsford United.

Last season, Nigeria-born DaSilva turned out for Cheadle Town in the North West Counties League Premier Division and netted 16 goals for the club.

Witton have also confirmed that Ollie Hitchcox, Cam Fogarty and Callum Grogan – all three of whom were members of Jon Macken’s squad that fell just short of a play-off place in the Northern Premier League West Division last season – will all remain at the U Lock It Stadium.

More news on players is expected to be confirmed ahead of the club’s first pre-season friendly against Radcliffe on Saturday, July 13.

Meanwhile, Northwich Victoria have confirmed two players who were key to their positive end to last season have signed to remain at the club.

Sam Unwin and Will Lloyd have both signed on the dotted line to be part of Matt Barnes’ squad, with the club going into celebrations of its 150th anniversary.

And Lloyd feels the squad they have assembled is capable of marking it with promotion from the Midlands Football League Premier Division.

“I’m delighted, to be honest. I’m happy to be here,” he said.

“It’s a great club and there’s a lot of ambition here as well, so I’m over the moon.

“When I came, the team was in a bit of an unfortunate situation with the league itself, but there was a lot of togetherness in the squad.

“Nobody gave in, everybody got together and we finished well. Seeing us develop as a team towards the back end of the season was great to see.

“We can expect a lot from this season and the lads are working really hard together.

“It would be silly to say we can’t push for the play-offs or even for going to win the league. It’s definitely doable.”

Unwin, who finished as the club’s leading goalscorer with 21 last season, echoed those sentiments.

“After last season, it’s good to be here for another year and I can’t wait to get going,” he said.

“The positive we’ve got to take is our end to the season – the run we went on is really positive going into this year.

“The club’s going into its 150th year this year and I wanted to be a part of that. The fans are great home and away.

“We’ve got a bit of chemistry now as a team and we’re going to be even stronger next year.”
