More sunny and warm weather is on its way to Yorkshire this week as the latest temperatures are set to continue for a period before showers return.

There will be more sunshine throughout the region with warm temperatures also expected on Thursday. There will be cloud, but the day will be dominated by the sun.

The Met Office has also said temperatures are expected to be in their lower 20s. They said: "Aside from any low cloud over slopes in the west, generally a fine day with a good deal of sunshine for most. Feeling warm with light winds. Maximum temperature 21C."

Over the weekend, these settled conditions will continue with more dry, sunny and warm weather to come. The Met Office added: "Settled conditions with plenty of dry and sunny weather. Patches of mist and fog possible most mornings with light and variable winds. Some scattered showers developing on Saturday. Warm."

However, in the longer term, the rain is expected to return in mid-May. The Met Office said: "The weather is expected to change from the current warm and settled conditions, and return to an unsettled and showery pattern. Rain and showers, perhaps heavy and thundery, are expected across much of the country. Rainfall amounts could be above average in many areas, especially where showers merge and become slow moving.

"Winds could fresh at times, especially near heavier showers and along coasts. Temperatures will not be as high as the previous week, and are expected to fall closer to average for May. Where it remains damp and cloudy it will feel much cooler than of late. However where there are any breaks in the cloud, and where winds fall light, it will feel warm in any sunny spells."
