Morrisons giving out refunds to shoppers and 'doesn't need to see receipt'

Morrisons has issued emergency refunds to shoppers after being caught up in the Greencore product recall. The recall relates to the Morrisons Chicken Salad Sandwich, Morrisons Gluten Free Chicken Salad Sandwich, Morrisons Gluten Free Sandwich Platter and all use by dates up to and including 16 June are impacted.

Morrisons explained: "We have taken the precautionary step of recalling the above products because of possible contamination with E-Coli. No E-Coli has been found in these products. What you need to do? Please do not eat this product and return it to your nearest store for a full refund.

"We don't need a receipt. No other products are affected by this issue. We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause and assure customers of our continuing commitment to the highest standard of product quality and safety." Darren Whitby, Head of Incidents at the FSA described the move as a "precautionary measure" taken "in response to findings from investigations by the Food Standards Agency (FSA), Food Standards Scotland (FSS) and UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA)".

“Infections caused by STEC bacteria can cause severe bloody diarrhoea and, in some cases, more serious complications. We therefore advise any consumers who have any of these products not to eat them," he added. Trish Mannes, incident director at UKHSA, said: “We would like to thank all the cases who have provided information that has enabled us, through epidemiological analysis of questionnaire data and food-tracing investigations, to narrow down the likely food product linked to this outbreak.”

E. coli are a diverse group of bacteria that are normally harmless and live in the intestines of humans and animals. However some strains, like Stec, can make people very ill. The FSA advises any consumer sand customers who have any of the products being recalled not to eat them and to seek refunds.
