Morrisons panned for 'disgraceful' display of eggs in Ayr store as supermarket giant brands display 'isolated incident'
An Ayrshire supermarket giant was this week panned for its "disgraceful" display of eggs.
The Morrisons store on Ayr’s Castlehill Road has been criticised for the state of its display - with one shopper insisting they walked out in disgust. The picture above was taken on Monday and shows what appears to be cracked shells and egg yoke running down the back of the display unit.
Ripped opened egg boxes lie in a sodden and dampened state near a multi pack of Penguin biscuits and a packet of sour-flavoured Mr Freeze Freeze Pops. Other edible items such as Morrisons' own brand muffins lie nearby with individual eggs also exposed.
One shopper said on Monday: “I have just been into Ayr Morrisons; it’s a disgrace. Here is a picture of the egg area! Needless to say when I saw this I abandoned my shopping.”
She added: “No need for this, it’s a health hazard to say the least. That store is going downhill fast. The store is not what it used to be. A few of my friends have made comments regarding the cleanliness of the store. I have been a customer for years and have to say it’s put me off using the company.”
Ayrshire Live contacted Morrisons and they thanked us for bringing the matter to their attention.
A spokesperson said the mess on the shelf was an “isolated incident." They also sent up-to-date pictures of what the display should look like now.
